 About Elizabeth Glenn-Copeland

I am an artist.
My work over the past four decades has evolved at the intersection of arts and activism.
I am a mother, a wife, a gardener,
a singer, a dancer and a teller of tales.

I am an Earth-honouring woman of European descent.
Of my ancestral lineage with all Creation,
I know little: the knowledge I have gathered is pitifully small,
gleaned from books and old women and pure dumb luck.

Like Audre, I know the Master’s house cannot be razed with the master’s tools.
Like Richard, I want to hear everything and nothing at the same time.
Like Lawrence, I am waiting for a rebirth of wonder.

Audre — African-American feminist poet and philosopher, Audre Lorde
Richard — Ojibwe author and journalist, Richard Wagamese
Lawrence — American beat poet, Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Author

My short stories, poems and works of creative non-fiction have appeared in various journals including What Rough Beast, The Furious Gazelle, and Forge Journal, to name a few. My novella, JAZZ - Nature's Improvisation was shortlisted for the 2015 ReLit Award and is available through Quattro Books. Daring to Hope at the Cliff's Edge: Pangea's Dream Remembered was researched and written as part of a 2018 writing residency at the Joggins Fossil Institute. It is my debut book of poetry.

Theatre Artist

I have toured with Second City doing improv comedy, sung and danced with the Honolulu Symphony as the Witch in Hansel and Gretel, and played the role of Arkadina in The Seagull at Theatre Passe Muraille.  As a storyteller, I have performed at the Toronto International Storytelling Festival and the Canadian National Exhibition. As Artistic Director of KPH Theatre Productions, myself and my husband (musician Beverly Glenn-Copeland) wrote and produced a number of musical plays using a collaborative theatre methodology, including: The Mother Tree, Barnyard Brains and The Raven of Eirean Mohr*

Artist Facilitator

I facilitate innovative programs designed to support people to live more authentic lives. I have taught at the San Miguel Writers Conference, the Knowlton Literary Festival and recently facilitated a "Daring to Hope..." climate workshop at Mount Allison University. In 2018, I facilitated the Earth Warriors Theatre Project, and for this and other work in community, won the 2018 Environmental Leadership Award.
